A SOLDIER’S STORY. PRISON LIFE AND OTHER INCIDENTS IN THE WAR OF 1861-1865. BY MILES O. SHERRILL OF CATAWBA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA

1904. 19 pp. Softcover in original printed wraps, with some slight chipping to the wraps. INSCRIBED by the author on the title page (see pic). A very SCARCE narrative of service in the 12th North Carolina, including an account of the author’s wounding at Spotsylvania Courthouse in May of 1864, the fates of comrades in the battle, the amputation of his leg in a Union field hospital, a short period as a prisoner in the Marshall House in Alexandria, and the months he spent in prison at Elmira, NY, which is full of fresh detail and personal anecdote. Quite a nice item, especially for the material on Elmira. DORNBUSCH II, 785. NEVINS I, 202. NICHSOLSON p. 778. Item #100374
