Raleigh, North Carolina: Cooke and Putnam, 1853. 237 pp. Illustrated, 5 plates. Hardcover bound in brown publisher's cloth. The binding shows rubbing and wear, with chipping to the extremities of the spine, and ordinary wear to the corners. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Text is tone and foxed. Page 1 has been reattached with a straight pin, which we have left for the charm factor. A couple of pages (only) have had a few lines underlined in rather heavy pencil.

SIGNED by one of the authors, William A. Graham, and also the 30th Governor of North Carolina. Two gift inscriptions on ffep: 1. To D. A. Caldwell from "his friend & cousin" Wm. A. Graham, in 1854; and 2. To F. I. Osborne from Mr. Caldwell's daughter Sallie Caldwell White, in 1900.

David Alexander Caldwell was a North Carolina planter and a trustee of Davidson College.
