Columbia? Anon, 1793. Folio, letterpress completed in manuscript on laid paper with a smaller manuscript sheet containing a plat map and surveyor general’s certification, leaves bound with linen, docketed on verso, 11” x 16.5” overall. Damp stained, fold starting, legible, overall very good.

Revolutionary Major General William Moultrie grants 1000 acres adjoining Thomas Thackman’s lands in the Orangeburg District to Christopher Lewis during Moultrie’s second term as Governor. Lewis’ land was surveyed and certified by Peter Bremar on 5 June 1793 and the grant signed by William Moultrie on 1 July 1793. Docketed on the verso by Bremar at Columbia being grant No. 40. Grant and survey bearing elaborate “pro patria” [fatherland] British watermarks. Ref: Churchill “Watermarks” pp.75-76. Item #100146
