Hillsborough, North Carolina: D. Heartt & Son, 1855. 41 pages. Soft cover bound in original printed yellow wrappers, The binding is a little worn but quite sound. The headcap of the spine is torn and chipped down to about 3/4 of an inch. The rest of the spine and binding are sound. An early pencil signature at the top of the front cover reads, "Thomas A.(?)." Along the bottom edge is written in pencil "Printed by D. Heartt & Son." The text block is sound, and the text is foxed. Housed in a removable plastic sleeve with a board backing. Scarce. [Thornton 1681] Paul Carrington Cameron (1808-1891) was a planter and railway builder from North Carolina and was the wealthiest man in the state at the opening of the Civil War. Shortly before the Civil War he had numerous plantations making up about 30,000 acres of land in Durham, Granville, and Wake Counties and along the Neuse River. By the end of the War he was still the wealthiest man in the state. Cameron was active in politics, although he did not run much himself. Before the War he was a Whig, but as the War approached, he became a Democrat. In 1856 he was a state senator from Orange County. Item #100001
